During Barry Davis’ federal sex-trafficking trial, one of his victims, a 16-year-old girl, testified that he made her pose nude for prostitution ads posted on the Internet.
Davis, aka “Sir Lewis,” not only knew she was underage but also that she was pregnant, the girl testified, telling jurors she was afraid of him.
After a little over an hour and half of deliberations, a federal jury in Houston found Davis guilty this spring. Sherri Zack, the assistant United States attorney who handled the case, said there is a certain degree of satisfaction in getting a guilty verdict in cases like Davis’. But she said law enforcement and advocates in Houston are missing a key resource to help child sex-trafficking victims get away from their pimps — a safe house.
“There needs to be a place where they feel safe and can speak freely and openly,” Zack said. “There is a desperate, desperate need for it.
