The historic heart of Houston — the northern reaches of Downtown — have seen its fair share of rebirth and neglect in the last half century. As area restaurants seem to be dropping like dominoes in recent months, Treebeards co-founder Dan Tidwell and former Solero owner Arturo Boada offered CultureMap a look at the neighborhood’s storied past for a little perspective on the ever-evolving Market Square area.
Tidwell founded Treebeards with partner Jamie Mize in 1978 in a small space on Preston Street nestled between a strip club and rowdy bar. Quickly outgrowing the 30-seat location, the owners moved the business to its current site along Market Square in Houston’s second oldest building.
“I’ve lived and worked in this part of town for three decades,” Tidwell said. “I love it here and I’m committed to it.”

Well, unless you’re reacting to the free-rider/tragedy-of-the-commons problem of street parking.
He’s basically arguing that, while we don’t have zoning, we do have regulation, which is certainly true. But that doesn’t mean our lack of zoning is a myth. I think he was looking for a provocative headline. But what I most enjoyed were some of the comments, where quite a debate developed. Some favorite excerpts:
Houston still does not have Zoning in the concept that other cities have zoning. While there many development regulations, there is no land use regulations. There are not regulations that restrict what can be built on a piece of land and what that land can be used for.
There is a caveat though, liquor stores and strip clubs can’t be built by schools and platted neighborhoods can have their own internal land use controls.

Houston Strip Clubs: Police continue to search for killer of mother found dead in Pasadena

HOUSTON – Police continue to search for a suspect in the death of a woman who was found underneath a bridge in Pasadena on New Year’s Day.
Authorities said a passerby flagged down police after finding Edlyn Villegas, 36, under a bridge at Vince Bayou near the intersection of South Shaver and Queens around 12 p.m.
Police said she was found nude with heavy bruising on her face. Her clothing and cell phone were found nearby.
The exact cause of her death was unknown, but police consider the case a homicide.
Police said Villegas had last been seen at the Show Palace, a strip club located in the 1400 block of Spencer, around 2 a.m. Police said she left the club after getting into an argument with an unidentified woman.

A former Texas hand surgeon accused of assaulting his ex-wife and lying about his health to a woman who claims he gave her herpes is facing fresh allegations about his wild lifestyle and lavish spending.
Michael Glyn Brown, 54, spent up to $60,000 a month on the company of strippers last year, according to dancer Ashley Brouillette.
Brouillette, who claims she dated the former doctor from December 2010 to August 2011, said he was paying at least three other women during their time together, splurging on luxurious vacations and her cosmetic treatments.

She claims he paid three other strippers for their company during their time together, amounting to a monthly bill of $60,000 for the doctor.

Brouillette told us she dated Brown from December 2010 to August 2011, and met him through a fellow dancer at Treasures. She says the good doctor paid her a $15,000 monthly stipend in exchange for not stripping during their time together, also forking out $25,000 for some cosmetic dentistry. She says Brown never went to Treasures himself, but instead dispatched a faithful man-servant to procure talent. (Brouillette says Brown took care of three other strippers in the same fashion at the same time, thus paying $60,000 a month for female company).

That seems pretty strange that they argued & then he decided to walk home alone, Leaving Her then a mysterious Black Expedition followed her when she left the Strip Club, Now he’s hired an Attorney, Sound Like he’s looking to hide in plain sight!!!
