Houston Massage Parlors: Are Houston’s massage parlors havens for sex, prostitution?

Coming Sunday: It has been called VIP Spa, King Spa, Montage Massage & Day Spa and now, Du Soleil — though it has it has no sign marking it as a massage parlor, just curtain-covered windows in a storefront strip mall and a red and blue light declaring it “OPEN.” On 14 separate visits to this nondescript establishment over the last two years, vice officers have arrested 23 women for agreeing to sex dates. Yet the Richmond Avenue enterprise is open for business – one of at least 550 massage parlors that have operated illegally in the city of Houston, according to court documents, data and public reports.

Houston Massage Parlors: Law enforcement leaders give update on human trafficking

Cohen added that money would only get more scarce. She said the biggest challenge facing new programs and initiatives in the next legislative session will be a lack of funds since there is expected to be $15 to $18 billion budget shortfall in the state.
Cohen said lawmakers must get creative to fund any new piece of legislation that would need money to operate, including the human trafficking law enforcement initiative.
She helped pass a $5 per customer fee every time they visit sexual orientated businesses that will go toward programs that promote sexual crimes support and human trafficking. The fee will raise over $30 million per year, she said.
Other panelists at the breakfast included Mayor Annise Parker, State Rep. Gary Elkins, Sheriff Adrian Garcia, Harris County Commissioner Sylvia Garcia, Constable Ron Hickman, State Rep. Debbie Riddle and State Rep. Senfronia Thompson, among others.
The human trafficking and illegal massage parlor problems seem to be just as bad as they were in the past despite law enforcement agencies combining their efforts.

Houston Massage Parlors: Houston Slammed By European Travel Blog: We’re Boooorrring

And a third: “the ugliest city i’ve ever lived in, in my 35 years of life. when houstonians tell visitors that visiting the galleria (a fricken mall) is must when you come here, that alone tells you how much there is so little to see and do here when you leave the office. i live in rice village, which folks will tell you is the place to be. for houston stardards this place is the bomb, but anywhere else it would be a collection of attached tired-looking strip malls, without any sidewalks and trees. lots of dangerous areas to avoid, and the majority of residents are uneducated college-wise compared to other cities. it’s great driving around here seeing empty lots next to an xrated theater, next to a 20 story building, next to a school, next to a truck rental place, next to yet another rundown business, for miles and miles and miles.”
Um, dude, you forgot nail salons, tire barns, Walgreen’s and CVS, Cricket cell phone shacks, check-cashing places, hot-sheet motels, personal storage unit labyrinths, massage parlors, gun shops, cut-rate taquerias, Shipley’s, star-spangled Your-Job-Is-Your-Credit car lots, and We Buy Broken Gold pawn shops.

Know the ‘red flags’Did you know that blacked-out or barred windows and 24-hour massage parlors are “red flags” that human trafficking may be afoot? Nor did we.If you want to heighten your human trafficking awareness, all you need to do is hop on a bus with the Houston Rescue & Restore Coalition. Not exactly the most romantic way to spend a weekday evening, but potentially a valuable one.On September 22 the group will be hosting its second annual bus tour, pointing out various signs of labor or sex trafficking in the Houston area. To be clear, they won’t be indicating human trafficking violators, just the signs to look for. You can leave the banners, torches and bats at home. “Houston is a hub for human trafficking,” said Steven Goff, the project director for HRRC. “We’re hoping …

Houston Massage Parlors: Half Price Deals On Houston Spas And Salons

Half Price Deals On Houston Spas And Salons
Saturday July 17, 2010
Yelp, a very helpful site when you’re trying to find out ahead of time if a bar stinks or is awesome, will begin their annual Hot On Yelp event next Wednesday wherein people that sign up receive discounts at various Houston spas, massage parlors, salons and more. You can read more/sign up for/get all the necessary details about the event right here.
I hadn’t plan on participating, but then I saw that Renude Brazilian Wax and Skincare was offering Brazlian waxes for men at a mere $48 (regularly $95). Count me among those unable to pass up a deal where I pay someone near fifty bucks to cause me an extreme amount of pain. Go glamour.

Houston Massage Parlors: ZHANG v. STATE

In response to citizen complaints, Officer S. Roccoport and his partner, both of the Houston Police Department’s Vice Division, were assigned to investigate allegations of prostitution at the “Golden Times Spa.” On May 6, 2008, the two officers, separately and undercover, entered the massage parlor. After they paid a fifty dollar admission fee, an unidentified woman led Officer Roccoport to a private room and instructed him to undress. He undressed completely and lay on a massage table in the room. Appellant entered the room, and, for approximately fifteen minutes, she massaged Officer Roccoport’s back and lower legs. She asked him to roll over, massaged his chest, and then pointed to his penis and asked, in English, whether he would like her to massage that as well. Officer Roccoport said yes, and he asked what else he could get. He specifically asked for a “blow job,” but appellant declined to perform oral sex on him. Using hand signals, he asked her to masturbate him. He asked whether this service was extra, and appellant said it was and held up five fingers to indicate that it would cost an extra fifty dollars. Officer Roccoport arrested appellant.

Houston Massage Parlors: Ohno, Celski began on wheels

… It’s nice and warm in here,” Mike Pattison, the family patriarch, told the students. “But this is where Apolo and J.R. learned how to skate.”
The Pattisons traveled to Vancouver to watch the two Olympians they helped produce. They paid $1,200 for four tickets and sat in the front row, the best seats in the house.
At that moment, the memories flooded back. Like a teenage Ohno break-dancing between skating sessions, performing his patented windmill. Or Celski rolling past adults at age 3, his skates and body nearly equal in size.
“Everything started there,” said Yuki Ohno, Apolo’s father. “That was the beginning.”
Pattison’s West sits on the Pacific Highway near a massage parlor, a storage facility and a chiropractor. The sign out front advertised this week’s adult R&B night.

Houston Massage Parlors: Houston Groups Concerned with Human Trafficking Trade

Tighter restrictions on massage parlors in Bibb County could force them to move south to Houston County. That’s according to Nicole Poss with HODAC and some Houston County law enforcement agencies.
Poss says the businesses often carry ties to the human trafficking trade, and they want the community to recognize the signs, before it becomes a problem.
Pam Floyd at Harvest Church says hearing about human trafficking close to home sparked an idea for ministry. She said, You think it’s somewhere else in the world, and you think it’s so far away from home.”

Nicole Poss at HODAC says the trade includes selling underage girls for sex, forcing foreign women into domestic servitude, and often ties into illegal activities in massage parlors. That’s why part of their focus includes keeping the spas out of Houston County.

Houston Massage Parlors: In Vancouver, enjoyment is an Olympic event

In the last two decades Richmond has become Vancouver’s new Chinatown, home to the second-biggest Asian community in North America; Asian Canadians now make up about 60% of Richmond’s population.
Stepping into one of Richmond’s shopping malls is a quick trip to the contemporary Orient. Yaohan Centre has a giant pan-Asian supermarket, and Aberdeen Centre is classic, over-the-top Hong Kong, right down to a showy multimedia water-fountain production in the foyer.
There are Sikh temples, the biggest Buddhist temple in North America, Chinese foot massage parlors and herb shops, but I go to Richmond to eat, especially at the Richmond Night Market, open weekends throughout the summer. You can smell the spicy lamb kebabs and sautéed noodles long before you reach the maze of 300 stalls lighted by strings of lights and hazed in plumes of smoke from grilled squid and prawns.
