Mom, Boyfriend Accused of Selling Girl for Sex

HOUSTON – A mother is accused of pimping out her 14-year-old daughter and getting a boyfriend to do the same. Both are charged with human trafficking and compelling prostitution.
FOX 26 is not identifying the mom in order to protect the victim.
According to court papers, the 34-year-old mom confessed to her sister:
“I can’t believe I did that to my daughter. I am a monster.”
No one at the mom’s home had anything to say but prosecutors do.
“For almost two months on an almost daily basis, the mother forced the 14-year-old child to engage in sex,” said Donna Hawkins, Harris County Assistant District Attorney.

It only took Foshee an hour to write the play. She was inspired by a victim she met at a shelter a couple years ago.

The play took place inside Jones Hall on the school’s campus. An audience was sucked in by carefully placed signs reminding people slavery still exists.

Improvements Being Made In Blighted Area Of Houston
If there was such a thing, an area of Northwest Houston near De Soto Street could get the award for most improved.

The area known as the Antoine Corridor was so bad just a year ago that two vacant apartments had to be bulldozed because they were havens for crime and prostitution.
Now, leaders of the area are talking about doing things that would make it looks as nice as any other parts of town.
Melaney Fahey works in community affairs for the Near Northwest Management District which is spearheading the revitalization effort.
“We have just completed a Livable Center study in partnership with the Houston Galveston Area Council ,and the recommendations from that study are a way for the area to transform the Antoine Corridor into a destination that people  all over Houston would want to come to.”

The Harris County jury deliberated about a half-hour before returning its verdict Wednesday.
Houston police arrested LaFleur last April, accusing him of soliciting sex from an undercover officer posing as a prostitute. Southern University fired LaFleur a few days later, ending a six years at the historically black Baton Rouge, La., university. LaFleur is suing the university, alleging breach of contract.
The Ville Platte, La., native and former LSU star tight end and receiver played with the Philadelphia Eagles, St. Louis Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts in the NFL.

HOUSTON – Thirty seven minutes – that’s how long it took a Harris County Jury to find former NFL player Gregory LaFleur not guilty of soliciting prostitutes.
The charges stem from an incident in April 2011 when LaFleur was the Athletic Director of Southern University – Baton Rouge.
He was in Houston for the Final Four and scouting for a new basketball coach. At the same time, the Houston Police Department was conducting an undercover prostitution sting and
That’s when an undercover officer approached LaFleur.
“He was alone, she appeared to be alone.
“He was hoping she would come with him to have dinner, but it was a very brief conversation,” defense attorney Steve Gonzales said.
